The Treherne Marathon is a unique race held in south central Manitoba, an hour outside of Winnipeg. This annual event takes place every fall as the leaves are changing colour.

The event features a four different live races: a 5K, a 10K, the half marathon, and the full marathon. The race starts in town and soon takes you out on country roads south of town through the rolling hills. The track is measured and the full course is an official qualifier for the Boston marathon.

The race takes you through the rolling Tiger Hills and has been referred to as "the toughest race in the prairies." After winding your way through the scenic route, you will finish your race back in town, greeted at the finish line by volunteers handing out medals to all of the runners. Afterwards, you will head into the community center for refreshments provided by the local residents to help you recover from the race.

This event is a community effort. The race is put on by volunteers who set up and take down the track, man the water stations, register the runners, prepare all the food, promote the race, and make sure everything goes smoothly on the day of the marathon. All of the money raised goes back to the community. Past donations include the fire department, the local pool, the medical clinic, the school, and other community groups. This year proceeds from the marathon will go towards supporting the Treherne Aquatic Centre, which is a popular attraction in our community.

The collaboration between the Chamber of Commerce, Minor Athletic, the Curling Club, the Daycare, and the Kinettes has earned The Treherne Run for the Hills Marathon the Partnership Award from Central Manitoba Tourism and have been nominated for the Travel Manitoba award.

So if you’re looking for a challenging race and want something new and unique instead of another race in a city, come to Treherne and run for the hills.

Our Town

Treherne is a beautiful community in the heart of the Manitoba prairie. An hour west of Winnipeg on highway #2, Treherne packs an awful lot into a small town.

In the summer, Treherne is home to a pristine golf course, a large, family friendly aquatic center, gorgeous campground, and walking trails through the lush valley on the east side of town.

In the winter, there is a curling rink and an active hockey arena. South of town there are rolling hills, with well groomed snowmobile trails. There are snowshoeing paths through the valley next to town for outdoor fun.

Treherne is home to both elementary and high schools, a robust day care, a hospital and health clinic, with ample seniors housing at the legion lodge and the Treherne Villa. The town offers a wide range of professional services, including lawyers, accountants, a dentist, a pharmacy and a veterinarian. There are several restaurants in town, as well as a bakery for fresh baked goods. The co-op and hardware have everything you need to look after your home, and the local tradespeople can help you with any project you have on the go.

Treherne hosts events all throughout the year, including curling bonspiels, tournaments for hockey, baseball, Belgian bowling, and golf. The Treherne “Run for the Hills” Marathon is held every fall and attracts runners from all over the world!

The rich history of the area is on display in the Treherne Museum, and the new car museum is home to one of the largest collections of classic cars in Manitoba. The community is surrounded by the beautiful prairie landscape, featuring vibrant crops as far as the eye can see, and breathtaking sunsets in the evening.

So come join us in Treherne, make it your home.
